How to use it

  1. Paste any public YouTube video URL into the field and click Generate card.
  2. A live preview of the share-card appears instantly on the right.
  3. Adjust the theme (dark / light), accent colour, aspect ratio (16:9 for landscape or 1:1 for social), and toggle the channel name and play badge on or off.
  4. When the card looks right, click Download PNG to save the full-resolution image to your device.

Why use FatThumb's video card generator?

Screenshot-based "share cards" are blurry and generic. FatThumb's generator pulls the official video title, channel name, and best available thumbnail and composites them into a high-resolution PNG card that looks intentional, not improvised.

The card is built entirely in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. The thumbnail bytes are fetched on our server (to avoid a browser CORS limitation), then transferred to your device as a secure base64 payload so your canvas stays untainted and the PNG export works without any SecurityError. Nothing is stored once the transfer completes.

Use it to make your YouTube recommendations pop inside a Notion doc, add a polished video preview to a blog post, or drop a branded card into a client proposal. The 1:1 variant is sized for Instagram and Twitter, while 16:9 suits banners and presentations.

FAQ

Does this work on private or unlisted videos?

The card generator uses YouTube's public oEmbed endpoint, which only returns metadata for public videos. Private and unlisted videos will return an error.

Can I use the card for commercial content?

The card is composed of publicly available video metadata (title, author name) and thumbnail images from YouTube. Usage rights for the thumbnail image belong to the original channel owner. Verify you have appropriate rights before commercial use.

Why does text look different in the download vs the preview?

The card is drawn on an HTML canvas using system fonts. The preview and the PNG download use the same canvas, so they should match. If you see a difference, ensure the page has fully loaded before downloading.

Is the thumbnail processed on your servers?

The thumbnail image is fetched on our server (to avoid a browser CORS limitation) and sent to your device as a secure base64 payload. It is never stored — once transmitted, your browser draws the card locally and the server copy is discarded.
